How to Build an Engaged Workforce

Where do I begin?

We've previously discussed the pain and cost of not having an engaged workforce.  But how can you ensure that your employees are happy and productive 90% of the time?

Did you know that the most common reason employees give for quitting their jobs is that the position was not what they expected? Last week one of my clients said in frustration “After selecting (Bob) from a long list of candidates because he seemed such a perfect fit for our business, the whole Bob turned up for work.  He isn’t what we thought he would be!”

Where do I begin?

Whilst sometimes the blame for this will lie at the feet of “Bob” your employee, as employers we have to realise that every person has a unique blend of attitudes and motivations.  The key to ensuring you are seeing the whole Bob is to understand what is going on at a below conscious level.

You can only do this by using all the tools available to you, both before and after you've hired a candidate.

Many companies have tried to combat motivational issues by conducting regular surveys which ask various questions relating to an employee’s happiness.

While it’s pleasing to note that companies are trying to uncover staff motivational problems, we need to recognise that an employee is unlikely to admit (to their boss) that they are unhappy at work.  In fact they may not even be able to put their finger on what is making them unhappy because 90% of their motivations are sub conscious.

Therefore, we need to consider other methods in order to build – and maintain – a fully engaged workforce.

The Employee Engagement Barometer ™

Recrion’s Employee Engagement Barometer ™ is one way in which you can use advanced techniques to give you the best possible chance of having fully engaged employees.

By utilising the Language and Behavioural (LAB) Profile, you are gaining an accurate understanding of exactly what it is that both motivates and demotivates your team:

  • What inspires them?
  • What will make them achieve their potential?
  • What is going to make them less likely to ‘up sticks’ and leave?

You may feel that keeping all of your employees happy, motivated and engaged is an impossible task.  This is untrue.

Whilst it may be a challenging task, by equipping yourself with the necessary tools – before and after hiring someone – you are giving yourself the best possible chance of achieving the ‘impossible’: Employing a fully Engaged Workforce.

Sound interesting? Why not find out more about how the Employee Engagement Barometer ™ can revolutionise the way you see your employees – and they see you.
