Identity thieves
Background and reference checking often work in healthy conflict with recruitment. Whereas employers' recruitment departments are tasked with attracting and selecting the best candidates quickly and effectively, the objective of background checking is to protect those employers, their brands, customers and employees from recruiting identity thieves, unqualified professionals, and candidates with a propensity for dishonesty.
Hiring managers often regard background and reference checking activities as the "bottleneck" holding up the recruitment process. That's why it is important to remove background checking from the active recruitment process. To that end, Sandy Ogg, Unilever’s HR Director, believes that "it is best for our business if we concentrate on our core competencies and transfer what is our back office and make it into someone else’s front office."
It is important to follow recruitment best practice and protect your company sufficiently.
